Legal Opinion
An opinion concerning the
validity of a securities issue with respect to statutory authority,
constitutionality, procedural conformity and usually the exemption of
interest from federal income taxes. The legal opinion is usually rendered by
a law firm recognized as specializing in public borrowings, often referred
to as bond counsel.
Remarks: Bond funds including mutual funds (open-end and closed-end,
actively managed and indexed), exchange-traded funds and unit investment
trusts offer a convenient and affordable way to invest in a diversified
portfolio of bonds, but a bond fund investment can differ from a bond
investment in ways that are important to understand. |
